We are dedicated to integrating green solutions throughout our operations to reduce our carbon footprint and promote environmental stewardship.

  • Energy Efficiency: We use renewable energy sources and energy-saving technologies.
  • Waste Reduction: Comprehensive recycling programs minimize waste and discourage single-use plastics.
  • Sustainable Maintenance: Eco-friendly cleaning and maintenance practices help maintain our site responsibly.

Resource Management & Conservation

We actively manage our resources and take practical steps to protect the surrounding environment.

By focusing on water conservation, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and collaborating with environmental experts, we ensure that our operational practices align with the best standards in resource management.

Community Partnerships

Our efforts are strengthened through collaboration with local iwi, environmental groups, and educational institutions.

We believe that working together enhances our shared mission of sustainability by:

  • Honouring local cultural values through respectful partnerships.
  • Organizing joint environmental campaigns.
  • Supporting community-driven initiatives that promote regional sustainability.

Heritage & Sustainability Education

Educating our community and visitors about sustainable practices is a cornerstone of our mission.

Our interactive exhibits, workshops, and outreach programmes are designed to:

  • Demonstrate practical examples of eco-friendly practices in heritage conservation.
  • Inspire school groups and lifelong learners to adopt sustainable habits.
  • Engage volunteers and community members in hands-on conservation projects.

Future Initiatives

We are always exploring new ways to innovate and improve our sustainability efforts as part of our ongoing commitment.

Upcoming projects include:

  • Pursuing green building certifications and eco-friendly upgrades.

"Excellent price for what's on offer. I loved the upstairs room with the chronology of the boat, the documentary video about it, and also the more general history of shipping in the area. The ancient boat itself was the cherry on top. Great experience and thoroughly recommended!!"

Really interesting and very cheap to enter. The ship itself is amazing to see -- so big! so real! -- but I learnt a lot from the museum displays too.

Fantastic display and an amazing old ship in remarkable condition considering it's age. Built in 1853 the Edwin Fox has a rich and colourful history. Small gift and souvenir store. Open 7 days a week.
